Shen Share is a support group created and led by Melissa Soong that merges the benefits of facilitated discussion with self care techniques from East Asian Medicine and Yoga. It is a group that encourages empowerment through honest sharing, active listening, and finding strength in vulnerability. The power is in showing up.
In Traditional East Asian Medicine - Shen can be defined as the spirit of the heart, or the psyche/mind of an individual. With no comparable word in allopathic medicine, ‘Shen’ embodies all aspects of a person - the mind, the emotions, and the spirit. It is said that a person’s Shen, or the quality of their spirit - shines from the eyes.
Each session includes check in, seasonal theme, guided self acupressure protocol, intentional breath practice, and honest speaking/listening. Shen Share builds confidence, trust in one's process, and provides tools for soothing anxiety and stress in between sessions. Journal prompts and recorded self guided acupressure sequences will be provided throughout our time together.
Autumn Shen Share will guide us through the element of Metal - which honors the grief that may come up with seasonal change from Yang to Yin.
For continuity of the group, we ask that you commit to all sessions. If you know you need to miss one, please let us know.
Autumn Shen Share meets on the following dates: Wednesdays 7-8pm: 9/14, 9/21, 9/28 + 10/5
Sliding scale $25-$45 per session ($100-$180 for the 4 week series), e-mail us if you need to pay less.
Each participant in the 4 week series will receive a 15 minute pre-screening phone call/audio zoom with Melissa to give you a greater understanding of what to expect and ensure that the group is a good match for you. If you decide not to proceed after this call, your payment will be refunded.
To participate you will need a relatively quiet and private space and reliable internet.
Melissa is a yoga instructor, social worker, and NADA AcuDetox specialist. She teaches and provides care in a variety of settings.
